Abstract

This paper concerns with the resources requirement ofa hierarchical Video-on-Demand (VoD) system usinglayered videos in a heterogeneous environment such asInternet. An analytical model is developed to evaluate theperformance of the system in terms of the blockingprobability and the video quality. With the MaximumCache Hit (MCH) caching policy, if the customers canrequest different quality of the videos from the server, theblocking probability can be significantly reduced.
