Abstract

As long as Pascal was merely a vehicle for demonstrating new concepts in programming languages, its utility was unquestioned. However, as Pascal becomes more widely taught in our universities the flaws in this popular language are beginning to produce a new generation of unmaintainable programs. The overuse of global variables dictated by the existence of nested scope is compared to the undisciplined use of the goto statement.
