Abstract

This paper describes a hybrid optical-inertial trackingtechnology for fully-immersive projective displays. In orderto track the operator, the operatorwears a3DOFcommercialinertial tracking system coupledwith a set of laserdiodes arranged in a known con.guration. The projectionof this laser constellation on the display walls aretracked visually to compute the 6DOF absolute head poseof the user. The absolute pose is combined with the inertialtracker data using an extended Kalman .lter to maintaina robust estimate of position and orientation. Thispaper describes the basic tracking system including thehardware and software infrastructure.
