The theme of this symposium, "The Systems Approach: Key to Successful Computer Applications", attracted a significant response on the part of computer professionals, managers, and users. Twenty-four papers were selected from over 100 competing in traditional technical areas of hardware, software, simulation, information retrieval, and programming techniques. Increasing numbers of papers were submitted in areas recognized as keys to systems success including user involvement, modelling, novel and useful applications, data bases, security, management, communications and networks, social implications, and peopleware.
