The Air Jet Interface is an untethered VR system with force feedback based on the use of air pressure. The force feedback is provided by the selective activation of air jets. The basic idea of this force feedback interface is that air released from nozzles impacts the air receiver held by the user. The user perceives the air pressure as force and so feels as if he or she is touching the object. In addition, a projection-based stereo display and an optical position tracking are employed to realize the untethered environment. This system eliminates all wires, so it is comfortable to operate as the user is not encumbered by wires, and does not have to wear anything heavy.
