Over the past 50 years, there has been extensive research into robotics and intelligent systems. While much of the research has targeted specific technical problems, advances in these areas have led to systems and solutions that will have a profound impact on society. This article provides several examples of the use of such ecotechnologies in the service of humanity, in the areas of robotics, speech, vision, human computer interaction, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence. This article is part of a special issue on the Future of AI.
