An extension and functionalities for CommonGIS were implemented. The tool was tested during the development work of two different context-aware systems. Two data sets were collected, both containing location data of several users or entities and various events attached to these entities. Different techniques for subsetting the data sets for a more illustrative visualization were derived. The results are shown on a user interface. The tool revealed important information from both data sets, and it can be utilized in the designing phase of acontext-aware system as well as in the exploitation of the benefits of the system and in user studies. The tool performs well regardless of the diversity of the events in different data sets.
