A new type of MIN, Advanced Omega network, which using 4×4 switches, is proposed on the basis of the idea of the Delta network and the Omega network. In this paper, it is proved that 4×4 switches have the better performance/cost ratios than 2×2 switches based on the current level of the VLSI technology. This paper expounds its topological properties and routing algorithm and makes performance/cost ratios comparisons. And furthermore a fault-tolerant Advanced Omega network is discussed in detail, which has a good reliability and nonblocking capability in complex parallel systems.
