Abstract

Interactive visualization tools have been shown to be an effective means for engaging students in the learning process. Information security is a complex topic that can benefit from judicious design and application of classroom visualizations. At our institution, we have developed a series of interactive visualizations to teach students security concepts in different courses at different levels of experience. This paper describes the approach used to design and implement the visualizations, their use in the classroom, and our experience with their effectiveness in increasing student understanding.
