Rendering of wood combustion has received some attention recently, but prior work has not incorporated effects of internal wood properties such as density variation (i.e. "grain") and pre-combustion processes such as drying. In this paper we present the status and results of our extensions to prior work of others in the graphics community, leveraging insights and modeling results from physical science fields to simulate the influence of wood grain and moisture on the speed and pattern of decomposition of a burning wooden object.
