Integrating real-world industry and research project experience into undergraduate Computer Science education can improve student learning and help produce well-qualified IT work force. In this paper, we discuss our experience to redesign and improve an undergraduate data mining course by adopting real-world projects closely supervised by experienced researchers and industry experts. To provide enough background information for these projects, course instructor fine-tuned the organization and presentation of course materials and activities accordingly. Course evaluation clearly showed effectiveness of our approach.
