Abstract

In this paper we describe the development of the Amsterdam Digital City DDS. We describe its content and functionality, its organizational form, and the context it operated in. We also describe the users and the ways they used the DDS. The paper explains why the DDS initially was a success, and why it in the end failed to become a sustainable local information and communication infrastructure.
