Abstract

A new approach to determine the exact closed-form reliability expression of large distributed system made up of several non-homogeneous elements is presented. An algebraic software package called REDUCE is used for implementing the algorithm. REDUCE can perform matrix operations on non-numeric elements defining a given matrix. Matrix operations involving arithmetic sum and arithmetic product are transformed to logical sum and logical product operations for reliability analysis. The conversion, simplification and minimization of regular algebraic expressions to Boolean expressions are also discussed.
