Abstract

Mobile devices are suitable for providing mobility and flexibility to learning activities, and for supporting different services related to the learning process. It is necessary, however, that learning contents being delivered to those mobile devices are adaptive and relevant. This research proposal includes the design and implementation of interfaces able to support adaptability in a mobile environment for situated learning. It aids the learner in selecting informal learning activities in real-life settings by pondering his/her interests, the particular features of the device at hand and the situation in which s/he is embedded. We were able to substantiate the relevance of the situational context (activities, intentions and roles) in which the learner is embedded. This application poses significant potential to be exploited by exchange students striving to learn a foreign language, making the learning process more efficient by delivering knowledge just-in-time in a personalised way.
