Abstract

Between 1950 and 1990, a large number of publications appeared in the USA discussing the nature and role of computers. By looking at the topics of these articles, we can begin to understand what such systems were used for and why. The sampling of more than 1,600 articles and books surveyed in this paper is such a beginning
