The authors identify problems with present parallel processing systems, and present Armstrong, a hardware-software system that is designed to address some of the problems discussed. They briefly describe the Armstrong hardware and discuss, in depth, the operating system software, and performance of the system on a real application, namely, and computation of the 2-D discrete Fourier transform of an image.
