This paper proposes a deformation technique calledPlanar Bones, derived from Surface-oriented FreeForm Deformations, and explores its application to thecontext of Facial Animation. The warping method proposeduses as the control input a polygonal mesh, whichis built as a triangulation of the Feature Points definedby MPEG-4. A strong correspondence betweenthe facial geometry and this control structure is maintainedthroughout the animation, overcoming the issuesof many of the current systems defined using this standard.
