This paper presents an architecture for the rendering of 3D scenes on wireless and mobile devices that comprises a novel lightweight rendering algorithm and a fault tolerant local cache management mechanism. Both the rendering algorithm and the cache management mechanism are based on the interpolation model of image-based rendering. Our proposed algorithm places loose restriction on source camera placement and uses easily available source data. Results have shown that the rendering performance of the proposed algorithm is better compared to other known algorithms described in literature. Moreover, the achieved real-time response time obtained from the results makes our algorithm a promising solution for 3D rendering in wireless devices.
