Abstract

Executives and senior managers often serve many constituencies and face numerous pressures to perform. These well-intentioned and intelligent people search for an acceptable, and hopefully profitable, middle ground amidst these constituencies and pressures. This search is far from aimless or random. There are common patterns and most executives and senior managers face similar problems or challenges. This article focuses on these common challenges. Uncovering and delineating these challenges, as well as how numerous enterprises address them, leads to a compilation of best practices. This compilation is intended as guideline "notes" to assist all managers in addressing those things that keep them awake at night.
