Real-time simulation is the mode of simulation in which the simulation objects show the timing behavior that are the same as or similar to the timing behavior of the simulation targets. The author has been establishing a new approach called the distributed time-triggered simulation (DTS) scheme which is conceptually simple and easy to use but widely applicable. The concept was initiated in the course of developing a new-generation object-oriented (OO) real-time programming scheme called the time-triggered message-triggered object (TMO) programming scheme. The TMO, which is a real-time extension of the well-established object structure, is capable of uniformly and accurately representing both real-time embedded computer systems and application environments. This paper discusses the core techniques of the DTS scheme that have been refined recently as well as those of TMO modeling. Implementation issues relevant to the efficiency of the distributed real-time simulation are also discussed.
