This paper presents a negotiation based collaborative product design approach for component reuse in disparate products. While decision-based-design concept is used to model the product design as a decision-making process, negotiation is utilized for effective collaboration and value tradeoffs for manufacturers that are involved in components reuse. To reduce the efforts required in generating offers/counteroffers in the negotiation process, an asymmetric negotiation mechanism is created, which calls for only feedbacks of the achievement level of the negotiators. fuzzy inference approach is used to elicit preference structure of the designers based on their feedback to reduce negotiation time and efforts. The paper also presents the Pareto optimal points prediction using second order Taylor series, so that an optimal design can be jointly determined by all designers from different manufacturers. A case study is provided to demonstrate the methodologies and software developed in this paper.
