New Information-technology-based capabllities make It possibie to achleve systematic and dramatic gains in business performance. Reengineering offersone method to access these gains, but a broader process of business transformation explored in this paper can give enterprises a greater range of benefits. This three-phase transformation process starts with structured automation and re-engineering efforts, builds on new infrastructure and capabilltles to enhance and extend the orginal business, and then redefines it to create new businesses.
