The importance of information (or content) is becoming higher as computers penetrate everyday life. This has speeded up information management researches. We focus on information retrieval in this paper and present a classification of semantic-based techniques which rely on semantic aspects of people and surroundings as well as data objects themselves. We also present the notion of cognition-based retrieval which counts our cognitive nature in retrieval processing as a new promising approach. What this means is that, as similar to the theory of relativity introduced by Einstein, information spaces should form a continuum which bends, folds or warps from the observer's point of view.
