Abstract

We produced "A Spider's Thread", a live stage performance employing live actors, CG characters and interactive technologies. The production integrated traditional Japanese dance expression of Noh and Kyogen classical theater, narrated text, and CG animations projected on screens. To present collaborative scenes of both real and virtual actors, we used CG characters created with motion data obtained from a professional Noh dancer in consistent of Noh style. Our experimental system enabled actors and spectators to interactively control the projected CG animations through their motions, which were obtained by three-axis accelerometers or cameras. The results of a questionnaire confirmed that CG animations and interactions were effective for live stage performances.
