Abstract

This article defines an activity-attention framework for context-aware computing and categorizes several applications the authors have developed in spatial and temporal contexts. These context-aware applications use services from the activity-attention framework. The article also introduces a generic architecture for pervasive computing, explores and refines its design space, and describes specific instantiations of the architecture and provides initial evaluation of these applications. Two different user interfaces, visual and audio, have been implemented and contrasted for the same application.
