We have designed a mobile -PDA-based- interfacefor real-time control of virtual characters in multiusersemi-immersive Virtual Environments -using a large rear-projectionscreen. The proof-of-concept implementation wepresent shows the potential of handheld devices as powerfulinterfaces to Virtual Reality applications. This techniqueeliminates the display of floating menus and other widgetsover the simulation screen. A brief discussion on the advantagesand disadvantages of using a handheld for 3D interactionis presented as well.
