Abstract

To maintain user trust, e-commerce vendors have a strong incentive to protect customers' privacy. The authors examine whether this incentive translates into the adoption of the Platform for Privacy Preferences Project (P3P) in the ecommerce industry. They present the results from a Web crawl to illustrate P3P's current state of adoption among different Web sectors, and how it interacts with other privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs).
