Abstract

The authors combine speech recognition, dialogue management, and statistical learning procedures to develop Jijo-2, an office robot that can communicate with humans and learn about its environment. In particular, they have emphasized in Jijo-2 the role of (semi) autonomous learning: By operating in an office environment, the robot is expected to learn how to perform services such as guiding visitors, delivering messages, managing office members' schedule, arranging meetings, and other similar tasks.
