Abstract

Interactive systems, virtual environments, andinformation display applications need dynamic soundmodels rather than faithful audio reproductions.This implies three levels of research: auditoryperception, physics-based sound modeling, and expres-siveparametric control. Parallel progress along thesethree lines leads to effective auditory displays that cancomplement or substitute visual displays.
