Evaluating early prototypes in context is a challenging but critical part of design in pervasive computing. Early-prototyping approaches that ultimately sacrifice some realism or allow some bias in order to approximate contextual evaluation, while limited, provide useful evaluations of design choices early during development. This article is part of a special issue on rapid prototyping.
