This paper presents a system to interactively model and render fur on surfaces of arbitrary topology. It employs the hierarchical layers of textured slices to represent fur so the computation complexity on rendering and editing can be reduced greatly. The system utilizes vector field and scalar field to control the geometric variations of the furry shape. Users can intuitively edit the fur by manipulating these fields, and view the variation results in real time. Our system supports several interactive fur modeling operations, including combing, wind blowing, interpolating, smoothing and disturbance operations. The experimental results have shown the feasibility of the proposed approach.
