Design verification is a crucial step in the design ofany electronic device. Particularly when microprocessorcores are considered, devising appropriate testcases may be a difficult task. This paper presents amethodology able to automatically induce a test programfor maximizing a given verification metric. Themethodology is based on an evolutionary paradigm andexploits a syntactical description of microprocessorassembly language and an RT-level functional model.Experimental results show the effectiveness of the approach.
