Abstract

Shared memory based ATM switches are known to provide optimal performance in terms of throughput and delay under different traffic patterns. These switches are also known to provide better buffer utilization, can easily handle different service classes, and provide multicasting and broadcasting capabilities. Since late 1980s, several shared memory type switches were proposed for ATM switching. In this paper, we present a review of recent shared memory based ATM switches.
