Abstract

According to a quantitative experiment, multimedia guides support better knowledge acquisition when compared to traditional audio guides, particularly for visual recognition tasks. A new hypermedia guide is now available for rental by the general public at the Aquarium of Genoa. In this article, the authors explain the tool, showing how their extensive testing helped them evaluate user acceptance of it and analyze how the guide impacts visitor behavior. Questionnaire results reveal that most of the public--independent of age and level of familiarity with computers--perceives the tool as useful and pleasant.
