A physically based 3D virtual brush with bristles that bend and spread realistically like real brushes is used in Asian painting and calligraphy. Such an expressive brush lets artists create digital brushwork with spontaneity and spirit. Plasticity of brush and pore resistance of paper are also modeled for increased realism.
