The authors present Trex, a scalable system that takes advantage of parallel graphics hardware, software based compositing, and high performanceI/O. The goals of the application are to provide near interactive display rates for time-varying, terabyte sized data sets and allow moderately sizeddatasets to be visualized in virtual environments. The authors also present a novel set of direct manipulation widgets for interacting with, and querying, the visualization.
